About Daniel
Daniel Schwartz (depicted with his partner, conductor Lidiya Yankovskaya) graduated from Vassar College, Phi Beta Kappa, in 2007, where he majored in Jewish Studies, minored in Economics and Russian and received numerous academic awards, including the honor of presenting his senior thesis in the "Vassar Thesis Colloquium," a lecture series of ten top theses. Daniel is currently a PhD candidate at Brandeis University in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies, with a focus on Russian Intellectual History. His dissertation, tentatively entitled "Before the Law," focuses on "agitation trials" taking place in the 1920's Russian countryside. Rather than spending the rest of his life studying injustices which occurred in Russia 90 years ago, Daniel plans to dedicate himself to problems in America today; while finishing his dissertation, Daniel plans to attend law school, and to dedicate himself to defending civil liberties. Daniel has published pieces on MindingtheCampus.com, in The Lantern (the Academic Journal of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education), on thePhoenix.com, and as co-author with Harvey Silverglate, has published numerous works on Forbes.com and in the Boston Phoenix. Daniel is also an active Opera Singer and performer; he sings with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus (the Chorus of the Boston Symphony), had a solo in a recent Boston Pops performance (Baseball Pops), and has performed at Harvard University, with the Boston Opera Collaborative, with the Lowell House Opera company, and as an actor with Opera Boston.
